pure bred Poultry by the Tuckers

Mareema's aren't your average dog

Unlike most dogs who have hunting instincts  Mareema's don't they are  territorial instead.

They are  suspicious of anything new in their territory.  Usually not aggressive they will howvever bark.

They are basically nocturnal night time active and sleep during the day.

Where we are in our isolated are at night we can hear foxes bark and the bark can start quite close to our house until the dogs hear and then they are onto them and will chase them away.

We have found Mareema's are generally misunderstood.  That is why we bred only two litters of pups many years ago and then ceased.  Mareema's are sensitive, need to be socialized, extremely dedicated loving dogs. Who need a large area to exist.  They can have problems defining their area and it is very difficult in our modern society explaining to them that it is natural for there to be so many comers and goers.

Like so many others we have had Poultry losses over the years as a result of  foxes and feral cats. That is until we introduced Mareema Stock guardian dogs to our environment.  We started with Lurgenglare Bibbiana in the early 90's.  Bibbiana was with us for 10 years until she passed away.  In the grieving process we hadn't planned on replacing our Bibbs  right away until day 3 after she was gone and we lost 70 young birds in 3 days to foxes.    Our replacement came from the NSW Mareema rescue society.  Since then Sasha came on board as well from the Victorian Mareema rescue group.  We had two of the most adorable dogs ever absolutely a part of our family for greater than 14 years  when both similarly aged and bonded to each other  passed away within 10 days of each other 2017. Now young  Lily cares for our flock.
